The Utah Landscape Incentive Program (established via S.B. 118) pays homeowners $2–3/sqft to remove water-hungry turf and replace it with low-water alternatives. In 2024, the program paid out $7M+ statewide and converted 3 million square feet — saving over 100 million gallons of water per year.

The exact rate depends on your water district. Most south Salt Lake Valley homeowners are in JVWCD territory, which offers the best rate in the state: $3.00/sqft base plus an additional $1.00/sqft if you install drip irrigation. On a 2,000 sqft front yard, that can mean up to $8,000 back — subject to district approval and program funding.

Rebate amounts are estimates. Final eligibility and payment are determined by your water district.

COMMON MISTAKES · WHY APPLICATIONS GET REJECTED

What Disqualifies Your Application

These are the most common reasons Utah homeowners lose their rebate. Read this before you do anything.

Instant Disqualifiers
  • Removing turf BEFORE getting pre-approval — this is an instant disqualification with no appeal.

  • Turf strips under 8 ft wide — narrow parkstrips do not qualify regardless of length.

  • Microspray irrigation systems — only true drip emitters and bubblers count toward the drip bonus.

  • Replacing turf with artificial turf — synthetic grass is not xeriscape and does not qualify.

  • Not completing the post-install inspection within the deadline — the application will expire.
